WC’s Keynote Speaker Also Proud Military Veteran

On May 16th, during Williamson College’s graduation commencement, Dr. Mark Green, Tennessee state senator for District 22, was presented with an honorary doctorate of humanities degree.

The degree, which recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the community, state and nation, was the second honorary doctorate conferred by Williamson College.

Dr. Mark GreenDr. Green was also WC’s Keynote Speaker for our 2015 ceremony. With his encouraging speech, he focused on Matthew 25 and the parable of the talents, focusing on investing your gifts and talents to serve others.

Dr. Green is the president and CEO of Align MD (www.alignmd.com), an emergency department staffing company based in Clarksville, TN, which provides leadership, management and staffing to emergency departments in four southeastern states.

Mark also founded Align MD Foundation, which provides healthcare to under-served populations throughout the world. Just prior to the capture of Saddam Hussein Mark came to Tennessee as an army special operation flight surgeon assigned to the 160th Special Ops Aviation Regiment. There he planned and flew on some of the war on terror’s most covert operations.

His most memorable mission was the capture of Saddam Hussein. Dr. Green interviewed Saddam for six hours on the night of his capture and wrote a book detailing the interview and his service with our military’s “Jedi Nights,” as he calls them.

During this time Mark was selected as the Army Aviation Association Flight Surgeon of the year. Dr. Green’s military career began as an infantry officer. From 1987 – 1990 he served as a rifle platoon leader, scout platoon leader and battalion personnel officer in the 194th Separate Armor Brigade, and from 1990 – 1992, as a battalion supply officer and an airborne rifle company commander in the famed 82nd Airborne Division.

In 1986, then Second Lieutenant Green graduated West Point with a degree in economics. In addition to his degree from West Point, Mark has a Masters Certificate from the University of Southern California in Information Systems, and his medical degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

His military awards include the Bronze Star, The Air Medal, The Air Medal with “V” device for valor under heavy enemy fire, and numerous other medals for service. He also was awarded the Combat Medical Badge, the US Army Ranger Tab, and The Expert Infantryman’s Badge, among many others.

Dr. Mark GreenIn 1989, Dr. Green met and married the love of his life Camilla Joy Guenther. Camie and Mark have two lovely children, Alexa age 20, a junior at Austin Peay University, and Mitchell age 17, a senior at Clarksville High School.

As the CEO and founder of a health care company, Dr. Green understands the challenges facing businesses in these difficult economic times. He has added $4 million in new jobs to our communities and understands how to lead people and organizations toward success. As a physician, he recognizes the need for government to stay out of the patient – physician relationship, and is uniquely prepared to take on the challenges of our state’s TennCare program.

As a consumer of education, Mark’s daughter attends Austin Peay University and his son, Clarksville High School. Dr. Green understands the need to invest in teachers as means of investing in our children.

An Army Veteran, with trips to Iraq and Afghanistan, Dr. Green fully comprehends the challenges and needs of our nation’s military. He also understands the War on Terror as only one who fought it can. As a social conservative Dr. Green recognizes the need to fight for the rights of the unborn with compassion for the mothers caught in difficult circumstances. Mark’s work in Ethiopia, Cambodia and Guatemala through his foundation adds to his international and cultural experience, but more importantly it shows that Dr. Green understands “to whom has been given much, much will be expected.
