Dr. Shawna L. Huston is the Regional Vice President of Clinical Operations for the Southeast Region at CityVet. In this executive leadership role, she oversees a $40 million regional portfolio, partnering directly with equity-owning veterinary business leaders to launch and scale 36 de novo practices in their initial growth phase. She provides strategic mentorship, clinical governance, and operational guidance to practice leaders while co-leading regional strategy alongside operational partners.

Prior to joining CityVet, Dr. Huston served as Regional Medical Director at Mission Veterinary Partners, where she spearheaded clinical standards, talent development, and medical operations across Indiana and Kentucky, managing a $100 million budget. She previously held the role of Regional Director of Operations at Heartland Veterinary Partners, directing multisite operations across Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia, and Ohio while managing a $27 million portfolio and delivering significant EBITDA growth through revenue cycle optimization.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Huston pioneered the Area Medical Director position for VCA Animal Hospitals in the Mid-Atlantic Region, setting the framework for strategic medical oversight across multi-site locations. Her foundational clinical and leadership experience includes serving as Medical Director for VCA West Shore Animal Hospital in Pennsylvania and VCA Glasgow Animal Hospital in Delaware, as well as practicing associate veterinarian roles in urgent care, advanced surgery, and dentistry.

Dr. Huston earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, with a concentration in Small Animal Medicine, from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Strategic Leadership from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Simpson College.

Dr. Huston has been recognized throughout her career for operational excellence and strategic leadership, receiving the WAG Award for Leading Region for Growth and being named VCA Mid-Atlantic Medical Director of the Year. A frequent industry speaker on leadership and team dynamics, she has presented at executive forums including the BLOOM Leadership Conference (“Leading Together”), the Regional Practice Manager Leadership Retreat, and the VCA Next National and Regional summits. She maintains a Fear Free Certification and stays active in collegiate outreach to cultivate future veterinary leadership pipelines.
