CURRENT WORK

Dr. Roger J. Huston is the President of Williamson College and an Associate Professor of Management.  He is an Affiliate Faculty member at Regent University’s Robertson School of Government, teaching all the core courses on nonprofit organizations, and an Adjunct Faculty member at Liberty University’s Helms School of Government, serving as a dissertation and capstone Chair and Reader for Ph.D. and D.P.A. students.  Dr. Huston is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Faith Works Consulting—an internationally recognized and award-winning management consulting and leadership coaching company—where he works with nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and small businesses.  He has consulted with sole proprietors and some of the nation’s largest companies and industry leaders.

Dr. Huston is a board member for One Cross Community Health and Wellness.  He also serves on the Education and Professional Development and Public Policy committees for the Kentucky Association for Economic Development, the Kentucky Institute for Economic Development committee, the Rural Issues and Professional Development committees for the National Rural Economic Developers Association, and the Competitiveness, Education & Workforce, Infrastructure & Technology, Policy & Research, and Small Business committees for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Dr. Huston was the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Relations and Rural Advancement at Campbellsville University and an Assistant Professor of Management with the School of Business, Economics, and Technology.  He built relationships with over 250 individuals across 125 organizations, resulting in 33 new partnerships to drive strategic initiatives and programs.  He created over 60 new mission-aligned programs and launched and sustained the highly regarded and nationally recognized Rural Advancement initiative.  He designed and initiated the institution’s inaugural pitch competition and the first professional studies and executive education credential with five-figure sponsorships.  During his two years as the Director of the Rural Advancement Initiative, Dr. Huston was a keynote speaker and presenter at 20 conferences, summits, and meetings for fostering institutional visibility and national thought leadership, and an organizer and facilitator for 12 high-impact events with several corporate sponsors, hundreds of attendees, and strong attendance rates—notably a 48.48% participation increase year-over-year.

Prior to his tenure at Campbellsville University, he was the Dean of the School of Business and Leadership at Kentucky Christian University.  At KCU, he led the school through program changes targeting academic rigor and student performance, which resulted in increases in 3 core skills across all 12 school assessment methods—with (1) an average 13.53% increase in critical thinking skills, (2) an average 23.21% increase in problem-solving skills, and (3) an average 10.68% increase in research and evaluation skills over two years.  Dr. Huston also led the school to a 68.5% budget increase, a 33.6% increase in student enrollment, a 73.98% increase in student retention rate, a 9.52% increase in student graduation rate, and a 6.59% increase in the number of students graduating with university honors over two years.  Over his tenure, he created and proposed 12 new degree programs and majors, with two new annual events

Dr. Huston was the President of the Global City—a national Christian missions organization with locations across the United States.  During his impactful three-year term, he designed and edited the organization’s first Annual Report (2023), and oversaw subsequent annual reports (2024, 2025) and the organization’s first Development Plan (2024), advised the board on fiduciary responsibility and action steps toward greater nonprofit best practices and compliance, guided the organization through restructuring costs and aligning programs to missional impact with reduced resources and recruited new board members, increased retention among existing board members, and helped lead strategic planning and future vision-casting sessions.

Dr. Huston was the founder and director of Testify—a bible-based, discussion-driven church that grew out of a house church plant.  The pioneering discussion-driven model integrated active participation during worship, where people felt seen and heard and could learn alongside their peers.  The church was highly collaborative, working with partner organizations to support impoverished communities domestically and internationally.  He led the congregation in budgeting, planning, programming, and development, achieving annual net revenue growth of over 50% through “lean” operational expenditures, and built an organic online marketing and interactive social media presence with annual double-digit increases in page visits, material downloads, and donations.

Dr. Huston served as the Chair of the Economic Vitality Committee and a member of the Board of Directors for Campbellsville Main Street and was a board member of Love Thy Neighborhood, a Louisville, KY, faith-based nonprofit organization focusing on urban programs for young adults.  He was previously a member of the Iowa Board of Athletic Training and the Des Moines Area Religious Council.

EDUCATION

He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion, with Honors, from Simpson College.  He earned a Master of Arts in Religion degree from Yale University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Iowa State University.  He has a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership and a Certificate in Higher Education Teaching, both from Harvard University.  Dr. Huston earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Urban Affairs and Public Policy from the University of Delaware.

RESEARCH & TEACHING

He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in business, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, leadership, management, marketing, political science, and public administration and policy at several higher education institutions nationwide.  His research interests include Nonprofit Management and Leadership, Organizational Theory and Behavior, Organizational Decision-Making and Strategy, Social Entrepreneurship and Policy, Community Engagement and Impact, and Economic and Sustainable Development.
