A Message from Professor Kristi McLelland during the COVID-19 Pandemic

As we continue to live out our days in this very unusual time during what we will forever call something like, “that whole Coronavirus season”, I’ve been thinking a lot during my morning walks with Chester about who we are as the people of God in moments like this. When we look throughout the 2,000 year history of the church, when things have gone down in the earth, it was a summoning of the people of God to live out the way and the ethic Kingdom in this world.

For the past 25 years, my mentor has taught me, “When you’re going through something, imagine yourself on the other side of it and ask what it is that you would want to know what was true about you in that hard season.” I’ve been thinking a lot about this… what will be true about me when this is all over, whenever that is going to be? What will I want to know about the way I held myself… my posture, how I lived, the way I interacted with others, cared for others… the ways I took care of my own soul and agreed with the Living God? Who was I on the anvil as the hammer hit, as it does from time to time in our world?

While we are all in this together as a college family. And that’s what we are… we’re a family. As a sister in the Lord and as a sister at the college I just want to ask you, at the end of this, what are you going to know about yourself during this time?

We love you. God bless.
